Who adopts whom?

It was Dec. 31, 2006, when we decided to get a kitty from the Hilton Head Humane Association.

We had Addi, our Golden Retriever, and Brock (a former pound dog), and thought a kitty would be a nice addition. My husband, David, was not a cat fan but agreed it would be okay. Ashley, my oldest daughter and a huge animal lover,  was so excited, we left early that morning on our quest for the perfect little kitty.

Time flies by

It’s hard to believe that I’m writing this column for our July issue.

Where is the time going? I told my daughters that I have a theory that the world is turning faster, thus the days, nights, weeks and months are much shorter. Although they agree that time does fly, they don’t buy into my theory. It truly does seem that as we grow older, we just blink and the season is gone.

Memories of summer fun

Like most of us, I fell in love with the Lowcountry as a child when we spent family vacations on Hilton Head. We started coming here sometime in the late ‘60s, and often stayed at Turtle Lane Cabannas in Sea Pines.

Upon arrival we would pull Spanish moss off an oak to proudly sport on our car antenna. Then we’d run to the lagoon to check out the alligators.

I can’t begin to express how much I love April

Our azaleas and daffodils are in bloom, the grass is turning green and the Heritage is here.
I’ve been going to the tournament for so many years that it is an absolute tradition for my friends, my family and me.
Years ago it was all about the outfit and getting your first Bloody Mary on the practice tee. Oh, and acting like I knew the ins and outs of golf.

Green, wine and my sister

Sounds like a bad movie title, doesn’t it? What do those three have in common? Well, these are a few of the incredible features in our March issue.

Let’s start with green.

Love comes in many forms

Publisher Lori Goodridge-Cribb

Love is such an interesting word. In my family the word love is used so often that it almost gets diluted. But this is the interesting part about the word love: It can be used in so many different ways.

For instance, I love this magazine, I love my Monthly team, I love my home, I love my children, Ashley and Brittany, and of course I love my husband, David.

I want to be an intriguing person

Of course I’m kidding! I get so many inquiries about how we select our intriguing people that I thought I would briefly let you know the secret: We get our nominees each year from you, our readers.

In 1997 — as some of us remember — Hilton Head Island and the surrounding area was quite different.

Reader’s Choice Awards: OMG!

As they say, very few ideas are original. So after a few years of seeing other city magazines’ “Best of,” “Favorites” and “Reader’s Choice” awards, we decided this would be a perfect way to help our dedicated readers say thanks to their favorites in various categories, ranging from restaurants to physicians.

In 2000, the Hilton Head Monthly Reader’s Choice Awards kicked off. I can hardly believe it’s been nine years.

Giving thanks during trying times

When I write this column each month, I like to express my thoughts on the general theme of the issue. November is no exception. In my opinion, 2009 can’t leave fast enough.

When we turn the calendar to November, we know the holidays are around the corner. We are reassured that the new year is coming, a year that promises to be on the path of recovery from this recession.

A smile … every time

Does it get any better than this? I am so excited to present our annual tabletop magazine filled with articles about why we love to live here and why so many visitors choose the Lowcountry for vacation and relaxation.

I’ve sat at my desk over the years writing about why I personally love to call Hilton Head Island my home. But after planning this issue and then watching it go through the stages of development, I was reminded over and over again just how lucky I am to live here.
